FLUL is going to participate in an Erasmus
IP Summer School entitled "Cultural Landscapes: Negotiating
Cultural Encounters with the English-Speaking World" this August in
Newcastle upon Tyne, England. This Summer School is a great
opportunity for those who do not have the means to go abroad on an a regular
Erasmus program, as this course will only last two weeks (July 28 - August 8,
2014).
The programme
comprises 6–8 hours of academic courses per day which will
take place at the historical Lit&Phil
Library (attendance is obligatory), with additional daily
activities such as talks and visits to local sites, as well as national
theme-nights.
Thanks to the
funding by the European Commission, travel expenses will
be refunded in full (up to a reasonable limit) after the
summer school is finished and all students will be provided with free
accommodation at Liberty Court Residence. We are also hoping to
be able to provide breakfast and lunch.
To be eligible
to apply, students must be officially enrolled at FLUL at
the time of the summer school, i.e. August 2014. Unfortunately, third
year students who will finishing up their course this school year 2013/2014 are
not eligible to take part in the course. To apply, Portuguese students need to
fill out an application form available on the website (http://www.anglistika.net/summer-school)
by 10 March 2014 and send it to the following email
address: lilicavalheiro@campus.ul.pt.
This course is
mainly aimed at students who are taking English classes at our Faculty and who
have at least concluded a B2 level, as there will be reading and
writing assignments to complete.
Please check
the website, where you can find answers to FAQs (frequantly asked questions),
the program, course descriptors and schedule for the summer school, as well as
testimonies from students who participated in previous years. - http://www.anglistika.net/summer-school
Remember, this
is an intensive academic program in which students are expected to work and
participate in - not a paid vacation. When filling out the application forms,
please keep this in mind.
